Part of the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria metropolitan area, the easternmost county in the state of West Virginia is Jefferson County. Home to around 56,338 residents, this remarkable county is home to abundant natural beauty, recreational opportunities and sites of cultural and historic significance. Originally formed from a portion of Berkeley County in 1801, Jefferson County is composed of 212 square miles, 2 of which are water. Within Jefferson County you’ll find both the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah River, the only place in the state where both features are present. Jefferson County is also home to the lowest point in West Virginia, a spot on the Potomac River just east of Harpers Ferry.
Along with its natural beauty and long, rich history, Jefferson County residents enjoy the county’s easy access to major thoroughfares. This convenient access makes the county popular among prospective homebuyers that plan to commute. West Virginia routes 9, 45, 51, 115 and 230, along with U.S. Route 340 all service the Jefferson County area. Jefferson County is home to two cities, its county seat, Charles Town and the city of Ranson. There are also three towns in the county, Bolivar, Harpers Ferry, and Shepherdstown. Additionally, there are three census-designated places in the county, Middleway, Shannondale, and Shenandoah Junction, as well as numerous unincorporated communities, including that of Keyes Ferry Acres.
Keyes Ferry Acres is a planned community found within Jefferson County. This unincorporated community is found on the Loudoun Heights of the Blue Ridge Mountains, south of the picturesque Blue Ridge Acres. This remarkable small community was named for Keyes Ferry, which operated in the area in the 18th and 19th centuries. Keyes Ferry Acres, which can be accessed via County Route 32, is home to Shenanwood, Wide River Farm and Harpers Ferry Campsites. Homes for sale in this small community vary in size, price, age, style and features, just like all Jefferson County real estate.
